"Are they even Human?" Process

This piece was made with acrylic on canvas, it also uses pin backings as the pins on the bugs and central person.

When creating this piece, I wanted to depict my previous traumatic experiences in a way that wasn't overly triggering, so I thought about what would be the most exposing situation to be in that would be safest for me to paint. Bugs are usually seen as pests or decoration, so I decided to paint myself pinned up alongside my favourite bugs.

Painting pieces like this are very important for me to work through my trauma, but I still have to be very careful not to go too far and paint something I can never look at again. It's a difficult balance, but I'm getting the hang of it.
